8 Ways Technology Is Improving Education →
General news is not relevant to young people because they don’t have context....– Said (Microsoft researcher) Danah Boyd, addressing why young people aren’t following traditional, regular news. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit. [Aristotle]

Awesome presentation :)
With some reflection I would like to add the following comments regarding our connect session with Bob Harrison. Even though we had some technical issues regarding sound of the people that were in the room with Bob I don’t think that this should disparage us from using this great tool in teaching, for the following reasons… If you think about the wider picture, Bob was actually...
Staff Developmemt Day
Hi all. Just wanted to say thanks for all your great input regarding today’s SDD. I think setting up this tumblr account was a good move that I really hope continues to grow and develop with our creative approaches to teaching in an innovative and collaborative manner. Again, many thanks :D Ryan
3 improvements for technical services- -geographical centralisation of the technical office in order to reduce time spent away from classroom for students -increase the amount of equipment in order to meet the current high demand -improve the bookings and reservation system on both equipment and studios
Personal learning tutorials
1. Who? Group, personal, student tutor should be one and the same person. That person should be appoint 7 on a permanent contract No more than two groups per tutor 2. What? Comprehensive tracking on webstar 3. Training needs. Audit of webstar indicates webstar/mtg/smart targets all need training
Assessment & Evidencing
Evidence - use of social networking in formative assessment - personalised learning and personalised assessment - use of a reflective personal journal to track progress especially in group work
VLE possible improvements
1. All tutors should be able to access and upload materials for all courses in creative arts dept. to allow much more sharing of resources. 2. Students work such as video projects, photographs etc should be showcased so tutors and students can comment and praise. 3. Improve the look of the site so it is more dynamic and interactive. Possibly get students to do some of this as work experience?...
better engage students
Rewards More professional relationship Trips to shows Optional units Appropriate learning and relaxing environments Facilities for innovative teaching
1. More collaborative projects between subjects and across curriculum - using the model of the H.e Edinburgh project (blog project). 2. More task based schedules of work attached to assessment (more use of moodle and interactive mediums such as blogs etc) digitally and electronically. 3. Shorter course durations - more bridging between courses to enable easier escalation to higher levels with...
We think that we should create a creative arts area that helps cement our identity, this will also assist in creating an inclusive learning environment for our entry 3 to level 1 students (and also for all of our students). We also need a blended and consistent learning environment as some of our students will need a more traditional approach to learning and teaching.
We need space for stilt and jiggly fun
Blogs about Learning Environments
Please Please Please. Blog what you are covering with your ideas about learning environments. Cheers Ryan and Ken :D
Media. Learning environments
Studio based rooms linked to specialism of the course Open plan rooms Lighting schemes, low key. More on the level of the student Pushing the ownership back to students less tutor time in classrooms
To have a learning environment that is efficient and most effective we need to come up with a way to give everyone access to the necessary technology.
Consider college hire purchase for iPads iPhones (and general technology such as drawing tablets etc too). This would greatly help staff to keep up to date with tech and be able to keep up with the students too.
Pinterest is a very valuable tool for image based research. Needs unblocking

LCC tutorial channel?
Could the college use social networking to provide learning support to current and future students? and generate income through advertising…cud students teach us? With the ‘branding’ of LCC it would give it weight?
Social areas with good wifi More staff training on tech Discrepancies in kit across separate campus’ Slr’s needed for more students It’s a case of access… It creates a backlog of need It all comes down to cash We know there are certain outcomes How do we allow students to explore outside assessment or extension to assessment? Have in induction to students for...
Points to discuss where tech helps: YouTube, Lynda.com and other online sources. Educational faculties never seem to run online tutorials.
Noodle should be used more effectively-eg work from students made possible to send to tutor
We seem to think that apps are the best way to communicate with students using the apps on their phone, rather than noodle, which the students don’t tend to use. That should read moodle. We think that tumbler is a good idea as it would more interactive than moodle. Having a series of activities would be good and different ways of presenting information either videos or blogs and different...
You tube very useful to show visual material for example extracts from films or tv to analyse or practical things such as linear perspective. Some classroom dont have projectors or speakers or the software to run dvds etc. We would like to use sites such as facebook but it would be better tutors could easily request that it was unblocked for certain sessions or times and when it is not...
You tube as teaching aid?
Need enough equipment available from the college for students that do not have resources readily available to them.
You tube as teacher
Thousands of tutorials on a multitude of subjects on you tube….. …can you trust the information though?
HE Photography →
A word is suggested each week to HE Photography students as impetus for a visual response. Students have access to the Thematic Friday Tumblr blog and are free to respond.
Sounds good :)
What we do -utilise moodle, issues with students not being able to upload videos or photos themselves so tumbler could be a useful tool or even better could moodle be enabled to do this? Having one site where they can access all of the tools rather than lots of apps for different aspects of teaching and learning.
One sided conversation
It’s like we’ve gone back in time - LEEDS ARE ONLY HEARING FROM BOB AND NO ONE ELSE IN THE ROOM. Repeat what everyone is saying. BTW I’ve not heard a thing you’ve said whilst typing this -,how engaging!!!
